Implementation Guide – Simulation Supplies 1

cpr_montage1

We present the following simulators that may be used within our high-fidelity, educational training model, and in parallel with resuscitation resources that accurately represent the organization’s specific equipment configuration. Each of these devices is available for less than $10,000 USD.

Organizations are recommended to select the product(s) that will meet their training needs, and to purchase them directly from vendors; we do not suggest one brand over another. During site visits, we can offer hands-on experience with many of these products to help prospective buyers  with purchasing decisions.

These options have been identified through personal research and experience; if you have other products you would like to have us present, please contact us with this information.

CPR Mannequins

CPR Mannequins should provide opportunity for effective chest compressions, bag-valve-mask ventilation, and defibrillation pad placement. Given the central role of CPR mannequins in resuscitation training, a number of options are described in detail.

Brayden Mannikin

cost: $$         Distributors:  CPR-Depot

Simulator - Brayden 2Compressions: Stiffer than other models. Click option.

Ventilation: Chest rise can be challenging, as ‘airway’ can easily kink. Head tilt needs to be extreme for airway patency.

Special Features: LED display representing blood flow with consistent compressions – very helpful for feedback for reduced disruption.

Other Thoughts: Newly on market in 2016.

Laerdal Little Annie Mannequin

cost: $$         Distributors: Laerdal

little_annie_cprCompressions: Easy to compress. Click feedback option.

Ventilation: Good head tilt and chest rise

Special Features: Face was inspired by a drowning victim – L’inconnue de la Seine.

Other Thoughts: A benchmark mannikin; used by millions.

Prestan Mannequin

cost: $         Distributors:  CPR-Depot

Simulator - Prestan 1Compressions: Appropriate. Click option.

Ventilation: Good chest rise. Head tilt straightforward. Disposable plastic sleeve needed; covers face and could be distracting/take away from realism.

Simulator -Prestan 2Special Features: Some versions have LED indicator lights on left shoulder, providing feedback on CPR rates. These are helpful.

Other Thoughts: Widely used; reputation for being quite durable.

Advanced Airway Mannequins

Advanced airway mannequins are used to supplement or replace CPR mannequins if training in advanced airway access is required. A head-only mannequin may be used in standalone training, or brought alongside another mannequin used for chest compressions if cardiac arrest has occurred. Organizations may also opt to purchase a manniquin that allows compressions and intubation, if resusciation training involving both skills is frequently anticipated.

airway_mannikin_nasco

Airway Larry provides a solid introduction to intubation. A bulb can be used to make the airway more difficult, though novices and experienced clinicians alike normally find the mannikin difficult to intubate in its natural form.

Laerdal Airway Management Trainer

cost: $$$$         Distributors:  Laerdal

laerdal_airway1Laerdal offers both a basic and and a deluxe airway management trainer. The basic model offers experience with ventilation, intubation, and suction, while the deluxe model (shown in the image) also allows chest compressions and surgical airway management.

The surgical airway uses a silicone neck, with a tape over the cricoid membrane.
